3D Mechanic Privacy Policy
Effective date: 26 September 2026
3D Mechanic is an educational app about automotive mechanics, published by its developer ("we", "us", "our"). There is no account and no advertising. The app sends anonymous usage statistics so that we can see how it is used; nothing else leaves your device.
Usage statistics (analytics)
The app sends anonymous usage statistics to Amplitude, Inc., an analytics company based in the United States, which processes them on our behalf. We use them only to understand how 3D Mechanic is used and to make it better: for example, which car systems people open, which tools they try, and how often quizzes and builds are finished.
What is sent: a random identifier, made up by the app when it is first installed (it is not your name, it is not linked to your Apple Account, and it is not any of the identifiers Apple gives your device; deleting the app deletes it, and installing again creates a new one); simple events describing what happens in the app, such as the app being opened or closed, a screen being opened (a car system, Learn, Build, a quiz or the Full Garage screen), a part being tapped, a Learn tool being used, the guided tour or the welcome screen being finished, and a quiz or build being finished, with its score; and the app version, the iOS version and the device's language setting.
What is never sent: your name, email address, Apple Account or payment details; your IP address, your location of any kind (not even the country) or your mobile network; advertising identifiers, Apple's vendor identifier or the device model; and anything about your purchases. Like any internet connection, sending the statistics shows your device's IP address to Amplitude's servers, but the app does not include it in the statistics or ask for a location to be worked out from it.
We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app, and we collect only what that needs. We do not use the statistics for advertising, we do not sell them, and we do not combine them with other information to identify you. Amplitude processes them under a data processing agreement that includes the safeguards UK law requires for data held outside the UK. We keep them only as long as they are useful for improving the app.
The statistics are not linked to your name or your Apple Account, so we cannot pick out the ones that came from your device. Deleting the app stops them and removes the random identifier. If you have a question or an objection, write to us at the address below.
The app carries a privacy manifest, which Apple reads when we submit it. The manifest and our App Store privacy label both declare these statistics and the random identifier, used only for analytics and not for tracking.
Data stored on your device
Your learning progress (best quiz and build scores) and small conveniences, such as whether you have seen the welcome screen, are stored only on your device using the standard app storage provided by Apple. This information never leaves your device and is deleted when you delete the app.
Purchases
The optional Full Garage unlock is a one-time purchase processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment details. Purchase entitlements are managed by Apple and can be restored on any device signed in to your Apple Account. See the Apple privacy policy for how Apple handles App Store transactions.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages. It has no account, asks for no personal details and shows no advertising. The only information that leaves the device is the anonymous usage statistics described above.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) about any organisation's handling of personal information. If you have a question or concern about 3D Mechanic, please write to us first and we will do our best to help.
Changes
If the app ever changes in a way that affects privacy, the updated policy will be posted on this page, with a new date at the top, before the change takes effect. Version 2.4.2 added the usage statistics described above; before that, the app collected nothing.
